[Translation:]

Where did you learn about that?
That is still not clear to me;
Indeed I know many a maiden here
Yet for that, I cannot help it.

Once this was the joy of youth
And this did me much harm,
This young lady is of fair hair,
She has a pair of brown eyes.

But long forgotten is the time
Of much jealousy and quarrel;
Now I thank God, the noble shelter
For this redemption, my word of honor.

Much more I could write to that effect;
I only ask not to show this,
No doubt, you must know the lady,
Who wrote on the card

“L. B.” [?]

SCHIELE.
